Bitcoin climbed back to around $78,600 in Monday morning Asian trading, ending a calmer start to the week after the shock of the largest cryptocurrency fund theft in history. The roughly 1% gain marks the third straight day of strength for the leading digital currency, as Asian investors returned to risk after a sharp selloff in US technology shares on Friday.
The move came just days after Binance disclosed a $6.3 billion breach—the largest theft from a crypto exchange on record. The incident briefly pushed Bitcoin to a low of around $77,600 on Sunday night before buyers drove it back above $78,500 within hours. Even so, the market appears to be digesting the event without prolonged panic.
Among major digital assets, Zcash (ZEC) led gains with a 3% jump to nearly $1,280. Ether and BNB each rose almost 2%, with Ether just above $2,300 and BNB around $713. Meanwhile, XRP and TRX gained about 1%, while Solana (SOL) lagged with an almost flat move around $95.
The crypto market recovery was also helped by steadier global stock markets. S&P 500 and Nasdaq 100 futures rose at least 0.4% on Monday, after major indices in South Korea, Hong Kong, and Japan posted gains. Chinese shares also strengthened after reports that regulators would meet banks and brokers on Monday to discuss measures to support the market.
On the other side, Brent crude fell 3% to around $110 per barrel after a report that President Donald Trump wants to give more time for diplomacy with Iran before potentially resuming strikes after Tuesday's midterm election. Gold rose about 1% to $3,910 per ounce, rebounding from its lowest close in more than a year on Friday.
"We believe that given the Fed's comments last week, macro pressure will keep interest rates high, which will weigh on Bitcoin and other cryptocurrency liquidity over the next few months," said Jeff Mei, Chief Operating Officer of crypto exchange BTSE, in an email to CoinDesk.
Mei added that the market will be watching whether tech stocks can rebound or continue to weaken. "A small rebound may indicate that we have reached a bottom and could be a buying opportunity for Bitcoin trading below $80,000," he said.
In addition, the US midterm election on Tuesday night local time will be a major catalyst. Vote results are expected to start coming in during Asian trading hours on Wednesday. Mei assessed that a Democratic victory in Congress—which has opposed the CLARITY Act—could accelerate the end of the conflict with Iran, lower oil prices and inflation pressure, and ultimately drive a rebound in stocks and crypto.
The CLARITY Act itself is a bill that would set regulatory rules for crypto markets in the US, including designating a supervisory agency for each token. For Indonesian investors, this development is worth watching because US regulation often serves as a global reference, including for Bappebti and domestic crypto industry players awaiting legal certainty.
With liquidity still pressured by high interest rate policy and political uncertainty, the crypto market is likely to remain volatile in the short term. The question is whether the past three days of gains mark the start of a sustained recovery, or just a pause before the next storm.
