Red GMMA Signal Appears on Bitcoin Chart, Early Warning of a Deeper Correction?

Bitcoin's price chart is again emitting a warning signal similar to conditions before two major corrections this year. The Guppy Multiple Moving Average (GMMA) indicator on the daily timeframe shows that the price has broken through both groups of moving averages, and the short-term group now sits below the long-term group—a pattern its creator, Daryl Guppy, regards as a sign of momentum shifting in a bearish direction.
GMMA itself is a technical analysis tool that maps two clusters of moving averages: one for short periods reflecting trader sentiment, and one for long periods describing investor views. When the short group crosses below the long group, it signals that traders are starting to unwind positions. However, a signal is only considered valid when the long group also turns to follow. Currently, the red lines in the long group are beginning to converge and decline, indicating that investors are no longer buying aggressively and tend to be setting wait-and-see prices.
Nevertheless, history shows that this indicator is not always accurate. The bearish signals that appeared in August and September 2025 briefly provided confirmation, but the price instead reversed upward within a short time. Therefore, analysts caution that the GMMA signal should not be used as the sole basis for decision-making. The broader market context, including global liquidity and monetary policy, remains a determining factor.
"A moving average crossover is merely a snapshot of market participants' behavior. Confirmation from the long-term group adds weight to the signal, but there is still room for a sudden reversal," said a technical analyst observing Bitcoin's movements.
What makes this signal more concerning is its context. Alongside the emergence of the GMMA pattern, the market recorded significant net outflows from Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs), as well as rising demand for downside protection options. Both phenomena indicate that market participants are reducing exposure or preparing for further declines. On the other hand, the post-midterms seasonal factor in the United States has historically tended to be positive for Bitcoin, creating a tug-of-war between short-term selling pressure and hopes for a seasonal rally.
For the Indonesian crypto market, this signal deserves attention. Bitcoin remains the main barometer for domestic retail investor interest in digital assets. Continued price weakness could pressure trading volume on local crypto exchanges and reduce interest in altcoins. However, the depreciation of the rupiah against the US dollar could also push some investors to seek alternative hedges, including crypto, albeit with high volatility risk. The financial services authority and the central bank continue to remind the public of the importance of understanding risk before investing in crypto assets.
Going forward, the next few days will determine whether this bearish pressure continues or instead reverses as happened in August-September last year. Traders will monitor whether the long-term moving average group continues to decline or begins to flatten, while ETF fund flows and demand data from the US become key indicators. If ETF outflows continue and demand for downside protection options rises, the probability of a deeper correction will increase. Conversely, if positive seasonality regains dominance, Bitcoin could rebound and test the nearest resistance level. For investors, discipline in risk management remains key amid these mixed signals.
