Okafor on the Brink of Losing His Place, Njinko Ready to Explode at Leeds

- Noah Okafor baru mencetak satu gol dari lima penampilan Premier League musim ini, memicu spekulasi posisinya terancam.
- Carrick Njinko, penyerang 18 tahun, tampil impresif dengan delapan gol dalam sembilan laga bersama U21 Leeds.
- Manajer Daniel Farke disebut siap memberikan kesempatan kepada pemain akademi jika Okafor tak kunjung bangkit.

Leeds United are facing a dilemma up front. Noah Okafor, brought in with high expectations, has once again produced a disappointing performance. In five Premier League appearances this season, the Swiss player has scored just one goal and has never played a full 90 minutes. This situation opens the door for young talent Carrick Njinko to step up to the first team.
Okafor joined Leeds in the summer of 2025 for £18 million. Initially, he showed consistency with two goals in five opening matches, but then endured a 16-match goal drought. Although he briefly bounced back with six goals in the last seven matches of last season, a calf injury halted his momentum. Now, his form has dipped again and he is under scrutiny.
In the match against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium last week, Okafor was almost invisible. He created no chances, took just one shot, and recorded an expected Goals (xG) of 0.06 and an expected Assists (xA) of 0.01. These numbers underline how blunt Leeds' attack is when relying on Okafor.
If Leeds want to secure a European ticket, support for Dominic Calvert-Lewin is crucial. So far, only Calvert-Lewin and James Justin have managed to score more than one goal. Okafor is required to improve his contribution immediately or his position will be taken by another player.
"Okafor knows he has to improve his performance or the manager will turn to other options," according to analysis from an English football observer.
In the academy, Carrick Njinko has become a phenomenon. The 18-year-old was initially a winger, but this season he has been deployed as a striker and has been outstanding. With the U21s, he has scored eight goals in nine matches, including six goals in three Premier League 2 matches. Njinko is in the top 3% of strikers at his level for goals per 90 minutes.
Njinko's performance in the EFL Trophy against Oldham Athletic also caught the eye. Although Leeds U21 lost 4-2, he scored one goal from one shot, won 50% of his ground duels, and completed seven of nine passes. His brief cameo as a substitute showed the huge potential ready to be unleashed at senior level.
Manager Daniel Farke has better squad depth this season. Players like Harry Wilson and Jean-Matteo Bahoya are even struggling to break into the starting XI, while Brenden Aaronson remains on the bench. However, with Okafor's form far from satisfactory, Farke may soon give Njinko a chance.
The decision to promote Njinko is not without risk. Young players need time to adapt in the competitive Premier League. However, with the sharpness he has shown at academy level, Njinko could be a surprise solution for Leeds' attack. If Okafor continues to decline, it is not impossible that Farke will make a major change.
The question is, will Okafor be able to bounce back like last season, or will Njinko take over the stage? Leeds United cannot wait too long. In modern football, productivity is everything. If Okafor fails, Njinko is ready to explode.
