Samsung has started rolling out its October 2026 security patch to Galaxy S26 devices in the United States and Canada. The roughly 531MB update carries more than 60 vulnerability fixes, making it one of the largest security packages the South Korean company's flagship line has received in recent months.
According to a report by tipster Kailash on platform X cited by SamMobile, three Galaxy S26 variants received different software version numbers: S948U1UES4BZIG for the standard model, S948U1OYM4BZIG for the S26 Plus, and S948U1UES4BZIG for the S26 Ultra. The rollout is said to have reached devices in North America, though there has been no official confirmation from Samsung about its global scope.
Notably, the update's release notes are sparse. Samsung only details the fixes after the patch is actually installed on users' devices. Of the 62 patches in total, about 49 come from Google, while the remaining 13 were developed internally by Samsung. Most of the fixes target vulnerabilities across Android 14 through Android 17, including efforts to prevent attackers from executing malicious code or accessing system privileges without authorization.
The patch follows the full launch of One UI 9 based on Android 17, which began arriving in the US last September. That operating system update was far larger, at about 4GB, and was delayed because Samsung chose to combine it with the monthly security patch. Users of unlocked models as well as AT&T and Verizon customers only received Android 17 in mid-to-late September, not at the same time as other devices.
"The Galaxy S25 will likely receive a similar update next week, with potential global distribution covering the United States and other parts of North America," Kailash said in his reply to users on X.
For Samsung, this update cadence shows a commitment to the monthly security cycle that has long been a selling point of the Galaxy line. However, the gap between the Android 17 launch and the October patch reveals the coordination challenge between major feature updates and routine security patches. Users on some carriers waited longer than others, reflecting the distribution fragmentation that remains a challenge for Android device makers in general.
From the user's perspective, this 531MB patch brings no new features. Its function is purely to close security holes that could potentially be exploited. As a result, Galaxy S26 users are advised to install it as soon as the notification appears, especially those who store sensitive data or use the device for work.
The next question: will Samsung speed up the patch rollout to the Galaxy S25 and other models, or will it return to its normal schedule once One UI 9 has finished rolling out? The answer will become clear in the coming weeks, and it will also serve as an indicator of how seriously Samsung is keeping its long-term security update promise.
