British television presenter Alison Hammond, 51, drew public attention after she suddenly left the studio of This Morning clutching her chest on Tuesday (15/4/2025). The incident sparked widespread concern among ITV's loyal viewers, before Hammond clarified through social media that her condition was now stable.
In an Instagram post, Hammond explained that she had felt palpitations, or an abnormal heartbeat. "I'm just checking my old heart out. I had a little bit of palpitations and now everything is being checked," she said, adding her initial suspicion that what she experienced may have simply been a panic attack. She also apologized for having to leave the show so suddenly, something she said she had never done before.
Her co-host, Dermot O'Leary, had announced to viewers that Hammond was unwell and had to step aside. "Ali's feeling a little bit unwell, so she's had to pop out. Hopefully she'll be back soon," O'Leary said at the start of the show. However, he later confirmed that Hammond would not return and that he would present the rest of the show alone.
The incident highlights the health pressures often faced by live television presenters. Heavy workloads, the demand to always appear at their best, and viewer expectations are factors rarely discussed openly. Hammond, known as one of Britain's most popular presenters, had previously also shared her experiences with mental health and her weight. Even so, she chose not to prolong speculation and instead gave an immediate update through her personal account.
"I love you all, thank you for your messages. I'm sorry I left you. I wouldn't normally do that, I would never leave a TV show, but I'm not well. I'll be fine and the doctors have been very kind checking me over."

Although this incident took place in the UK, the phenomenon of presenters falling ill during live broadcasts is not unfamiliar in the Indonesian television industry. In recent years, several Indonesian hosts have also experienced extreme fatigue to the point of being rushed to hospital. This has sparked discussion about the need for more humane scheduling and mental health support behind the scenes. Television stations in Indonesia have begun adopting presenter rotation policies and providing counseling services, though implementation remains uneven.
Hammond's return to the screen remains uncertain. ITV has not issued an official statement regarding her upcoming schedule. However, given her track record of rarely missing work, the public hopes she will recover soon and return to entertain. Meanwhile, netizens in Indonesia have flooded the comments section of Hammond's Instagram account with prayers and support, showing cross-country sympathy for a figure known for her warmth and humor.
