Postel Service Day 2026: The 3T Spirit Becomes a New Foundation for Indonesia's Digital Ecosystem

The Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (Kemkomdigi) has set the theme "Connected, Growing, and Protected" as the spirit of the 81st Postel Service Day, whose peak event will be held in Bandung, West Java, on 27 September 2026. The theme, summarized in the 3T concept, is not merely a ceremonial slogan but a framework expected to strengthen the national digital ecosystem and tighten cross-stakeholder collaboration in the postal and telecommunications sector.

The choice of Bandung as the peak venue is not without reason. The city witnessed a historic event in 1945 when the Young Force of Post, Telegraph, and Telephone (AMPTT) took over the PTT Office from the colonial authorities. That momentum is now interpreted as the starting point of Indonesia's information sovereignty—a legacy that remains relevant as the state works to build a sovereign and inclusive digital infrastructure.

Raden Wijaya Kusumawardhana, Expert Staff to the Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs for Social, Economic, and Cultural Affairs, explained that the value of "Connected" emphasizes the importance of strengthening ties among all elements. "We can build bonds among all of us," he said during the Fun Walk for the 81st Postel Service Day in Jakarta.

According to Kusumawardhana, the "Growing" aspect encourages every party to keep contributing to the nation's progress. This value is seen as increasingly relevant because the Postel Service Day commemoration falls close to the 81st anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia's independence. "May this series of Postel Service Day events increase our sense of freedom and make our country more advanced," he said.

Meanwhile, the value of "Protected" covers the sustainability of the digital ecosystem as well as care for health and human relationships. "Hopefully, through the Fun Walk, we can all stay healthy, maintain kinship, and may everything be a blessing for all of us," Kusumawardhana said.

He added that the three values are interrelated in the effort to build a digital ecosystem that does not stop at expanding connectivity alone. Connectivity, he said, must deliver a real impact on people's lives. This statement underscores a paradigm shift from merely building infrastructure toward technology use oriented to welfare.

The series of activities leading up to the peak commemoration has begun, including the Fun Walk involving various elements from the government, industry, associations, and stakeholders. In addition, a blood drive initiated by the Indonesian Telecommunication Providers Association (ATSI) and a mini soccer tournament bringing together telecommunications industry players were also held.

For Indonesia, this 3T spirit reflects the urgent need for a digital ecosystem that is not only broad in reach but also safe, inclusive, and sustainable. Amid the acceleration of digital transformation, challenges such as the access gap, cybersecurity, and digital literacy still loom. The Postel Service Day commemoration serves as a reminder that digital sovereignty is a continuation of the struggle for independence—a long-term agenda that demands collaboration from all elements of the nation.

Going forward, the question is how far this 3T spirit will be translated into concrete policies that strengthen Indonesia's position in the regional digital arena? Without real steps, this grand theme risks remaining nothing more than an annual ceremony.
