The Pokémon Company officially announced the latest expansion for Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket, Deluxe Pack: Mega, on Thursday (local time). The set will bring back cards from previous expansions, including Ruler of the Skies released last July, with a guaranteed Pokémon ex card in every pack opened.
The decision to reissue four-diamond cards from older sets is the main draw. For players who have just joined or missed previous expansions, this is a chance to complete their collection without relying on the limited trading mechanism. In addition, many cards will feature new artwork, including the Mega Charizard X background illustration shown in the announcement.
The move is seen as a dual strategy: on one hand responding to community demand for rare cards, on the other maintaining player engagement amid a fast monthly release cycle. Since its launch, Pokémon TCG Pocket has been known for its aggressive expansion schedule, and the arrival of Deluxe Pack: Mega reinforces that pattern.
For the Indonesian market, Pokémon TCG Pocket has become one of the most-downloaded mobile games in Southeast Asia. The arrival of this set could boost in-app purchases from players in the country, especially those chasing ex cards to compete in versus mode. However, it should be noted that global release schedules are often not followed by regional price adjustments, so purchasing power becomes a consideration of its own.
"We want to give all players the opportunity to own iconic cards, without exception," said a representative of The Pokémon Company in its official announcement, as quoted from a press release.
Beyond card content, a system update will arrive in late October. Although details remain undisclosed, the changes are expected to include adjustments to matchmaking, the interface, or social features that players have long complained about. The Pokémon Company promised to share more information closer to the release date.
With the launch only days away, the big question is whether Deluxe Pack: Mega can hold back the tide of players growing weary of the fast expansion cycle, or whether it will widen the gap between free players and paying players. Over the coming months, the community response will be an indicator of whether this strategy is sustainable or needs to be evaluated.
