Rubeki, the solo studio behind Lorn's Lure, has officially announced its latest project, The Hollowing. This atmospheric horror game puts players in the role of a pilot of a small aircraft who must fly between airports and remote outposts in a fog-shrouded Megastructure. The announcement was made at the PC Gaming Show Tokyo Direct, and a free demo version is already available on Steam now.
Unlike Lorn's Lure, which relied on climbing in tight spaces, The Hollowing invites players to explore the open sky. The player's main task is to repair communication towers between settlements, while an unknown voice on the radio becomes the only companion during missions. The core mechanics emphasize takeoff, landing, and navigation, not combat.
Rubeki has partnered with Future Friends Games as publisher, which previously handled CloverPit. The Hollowing is scheduled for release on PC via Steam later this year. Although there is no exact date yet, the presence of a free demo signals that development has entered its final stage.
For the Indonesian game industry, Rubeki's move shows that a small studio with a strong vision can break into the global market. A solo development model focused on story and atmosphere, rather than a big budget, can be an inspiration for local developers. The horror and simulator game market in Indonesia itself continues to grow, with active communities on platforms such as Steam and Discord.
"We want players to feel a different kind of tension, not from being chased by monsters, but from the silence and the fragility of the aircraft," said a Rubeki representative in a separate interview session.
The arrival of The Hollowing also enriches the experimental horror genre that has recently found a place in critics' hearts. By carrying a rarely touched flight mechanic, the game has the potential to create a unique experience that does not merely rely on jumpscares. Support from Future Friends Games is expected to expand its marketing reach, especially in Southeast Asia.
Even so, challenges remain. The horror game market is quite crowded, and Lorn's Lure's success is not guaranteed to repeat. Rubeki needs to ensure that the flight controls feel responsive and that the story can keep players exploring. The demo available now can serve as an early indicator for players.
Going forward, will The Hollowing be able to match or even surpass the success of Lorn's Lure? The answer will become clear at the full release later. In the meantime, Indonesian players can try the demo for free and give feedback to the developer.
