Hollywood actor Dave Franco revealed that he felt a deep connection with the character he voiced in the latest animated film, Forgotten Island. In an interview with E! News, the 41-year-old stated that there was an overlap between his personality and Raww, a mythical shapeshifting creature.
Franco described Raww as a highly loyal and genuinely affectionate character towards those closest to him. "The people he loves, he loves very deeply; he's a very loyal guy, and deep down, he just wants to be loved. I can feel that," he said. This statement emphasizes that the voice-acting process is not merely a technical job but also an effort to find emotional resonance with a fictional character.
Franco's interest in the project was largely due to the two directors behind it, Joel Crawford and Januel P. Mercado. Both are known as the masterminds behind Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, a critically acclaimed animated film. Franco admitted he immediately felt a connection when he heard their vision. "They referenced films I love. They talked about how Forgotten Island has a structure similar to The Hangover, themes of friendship like Superbad, and other elements from Eternal Sunshine. I immediately knew we had the same sensibilities," he explained.
On another note, Franco's personal life with his wife, Alison Brie, has previously garnered attention. He once revealed a controversial story about an intimate moment they shared on the Pirates of the Caribbean ride at Disneyland on the podcast Call Her Daddy. Despite this, Franco emphasized that he prefers to maintain his privacy. "I'm inherently a private person, so promoting films feels a bit strange because it's not my comfort zone. But I'm learning to accept that this is a big part of my job, and I'm going to do my best and be vulnerable," he explained.

For the animation industry, the involvement of an established actor like Franco in the Forgotten Island project indicates a trend of increasing production value for animated films targeting adult audiences. References to adult comedies like The Hangover and Superbad signify that this film is not merely for children but also aims for a broader demographic. This aligns with studio strategies that often incorporate live-action stars to strengthen market appeal.
In Indonesia, animated films with themes of friendship and self-discovery often receive a warm welcome, especially if they have touching storylines. The presence of renowned voice actors like Franco can be an additional draw for local audiences, although the release schedule in the country has not yet been confirmed. Animation fans in Indonesia might hope for the film to be released soon, given the popularity of directors Crawford and Mercado through Puss in Boots.
Looking ahead, will Forgotten Island be able to replicate the critical and commercial success of their previous film? With a combination of a touching story, strong pop culture references, and the right voice cast, the opportunities are wide open. However, challenges remain: the adult animation market is increasingly competitive, and audience expectations for narrative quality continue to rise.
