The film Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle has finally found its second streaming home. Disney announced on Monday (September 22) that the film, which became a 2025 box office phenomenon, will be available on Hulu and Disney+ (for bundle subscribers) starting September 28. This move follows its successful release on Crunchyroll last July, allowing fans to enjoy the adventures of Tanjiro and friends from home.
Disney's decision to add Infinity Castle to Hulu's library is not without reason. The film has set a record as the highest-grossing Japanese film of all time, with global revenues exceeding expectations. Its presence on Hulu also complements the four seasons of the Demon Slayer anime series already available, creating a complete viewing ecosystem for subscribers. For Disney, this is a strategic move to strengthen their position in the increasingly competitive anime market, especially against the dominance of Crunchyroll and Netflix.
Infinity Castle is a direct sequel to the four-season anime series, adapting the "Infinity Castle" arc from Koyoharu Gotouge's manga. The story follows the Demon Slayer Corps as they infiltrate a mysterious pocket dimension to pursue Muzan Kibutsuji, the demon king. There, they battle against the Upper Moons, Muzan's strongest subordinate demons. This film is the first part of a planned trilogy, although the next two sequels do not yet have release dates.
Despite widespread praise, not all critics were impressed. Francesco Cacciatore of Polygon wrote in his review, "Infinity Castle is a spectacular watch, but not a great film." This assessment indicates that visual appeal and battle sequences are the main selling points, even if the narrative is considered less profound. However, for loyal fans, the opportunity to rewatch or watch for the first time on a legal platform remains a strong draw.
"Disney's decision to add Infinity Castle to Hulu is a smart move to attract a large anime fanbase, while also strengthening their content ecosystem amidst increasingly fierce streaming competition," said an entertainment industry analyst who wished to remain anonymous.
For audiences in Indonesia, this news brings a breath of fresh air. Although Hulu and Disney+ are not yet fully officially available in the country, Disney+ Hotstar has become home to many popular anime titles. The opportunity for Infinity Castle to enter Disney+ Hotstar Indonesia is wide open, given the high local market enthusiasm for the Demon Slayer franchise. However, challenges in content regulation and preferences for local platforms like Vidio or WeTV remain factors to be considered. If the film truly arrives in Indonesia, it could be a momentum to boost subscriptions to official streaming platforms and reduce piracy.
Looking ahead, the question is whether Disney will consistently bring the Infinity Castle trilogy globally, including to the Southeast Asian market, or if there will be delays due to regional strategies. Meanwhile, fans in Indonesia can hope that the film's success on international platforms will accelerate its availability on local streaming services, while also paving the way for more anime titles in the future.
