Renowned music producer Benny Blanco shared an interesting story about his transatlantic journey with his friend, Ed Sheeran. In an interview with the Sunday Times magazine, Blanco revealed that the two once watched the film Titanic from inside their cabin on the Queen Mary 2 ship, then recreated one of the film's most iconic scenes.
Blanco, known for his fear of flying, chose a cruise ship as his mode of transport to cross the Atlantic Ocean. This habit led to unique experiences, including when he sailed with Sheeran. "We watched Titanic in bed together. After that, we went to the front of the ship and did the Titanic scene," he said, stretching out his arms, mimicking the pose of Jack and Rose, played by Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet.
That journey wasn't the only one. Throughout the summer, Blanco sailed back to England to celebrate the birthday of his wife, Selena Gomez, who was filming the series Only Murders in the Building in London. This time, he brought his divorced parents, Sandra and Andrew. Blanco joked that being stuck on a ship with separated parents was like a reality show concept.
On the other hand, Selena Gomez admits to feeling anxious every time Blanco embarks on a sea journey. "I wish he would just fly, but he can't. He took a ship to meet me in London. It's very romantic, but it's also just as stressful if you're his wife. You just hope he gets there safely. I'm holding a handkerchief, crying, waving goodbye," she told People.
Nevertheless, the couple enjoyed a short vacation in Tuscany, Italy, last summer. Gomez called that moment her best birthday. "We got five days together, so Benny and I ate a lot of pasta. I spent my birthday just with him, and everything felt easy. He's so precious," she recalled.
"We're still in the honeymoon phase. It feels amazing to have a partner who truly listens and understands us for who we are. I need him, and I love him. He's such a delightful human: funny, spontaneous, and talkative," Selena Gomez said.
For the Indonesian public, this story might seem distant, yet the phenomenon of fear of flying and the choice of alternative transportation modes are also relevant. In Indonesia, some celebrities or public figures have expressed similar fears, though it's rarely exposed. Furthermore, the long-distance relationship maintained by Blanco and Gomez is reminiscent of many couples in Indonesia who have to be temporarily separated due to work, facing accompanying communication challenges and anxieties.
Looking ahead, will this couple continue their unusual sailing routine? Or will there be a change in habits as their marriage matures? What is clear is that their story shows that commitment and understanding can overcome distance, even when the journey must be taken by sea.
