Alonso Slammed After Chelsea's 3-0 Rout by Brentford: Estêvão's Substitution Under Scrutiny

Alonso had already made two substitutions in the 72nd minute, bringing on Geovany Quenda and Josh Acheampong, but the decision to hold back Estêvão was deemed counterproductive.

"I still believe in Xabi and I'm not panicking, but Neto stayed on too long and Estêvão came on too late—it's confusing. This has become a pattern; Xabi's substitutions are too slow," said Chelsea influencer, Alex Goldberg, on X.

Goldberg's criticism represents the frustration of most supporters. Estêvão is certainly not the sole solution, but he possesses dribbling ability and pace to break down tight defenses. Giving him less than ten minutes—including injury time—hardly provides room to change the game. Stamford Bridge management is said to have high hopes for the young player, making his limited playing time a question mark.

Nevertheless, early panic is not entirely warranted. Alonso inherited an injury-hit squad and is still integrating several new players.
