John Leguizamo Set as Main Antagonist in 'Miami Vice '85,' Deepening Universal Partnership

Veteran actor John Leguizamo is confirmed to play the main antagonist in Miami Vice '85, a big-screen reboot of the iconic 1980s television series. This news reaffirms Universal Pictures' continued trust in Leguizamo for major projects, especially after his recent appearance in Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Leguizamo will join the previously announced cast members: Michael B. Jordan, Austin Butler, Alden Ehrenreich, Whitney Peak, Camila Morrone, and Danny Ramirez. Leguizamo's role as the primary villain will balance the story's dynamics, which explore the glamour and corruption of Miami in the mid-1980s.

The film is directed by Joseph Kosinski, the acclaimed filmmaker behind the successes of Top Gun: Maverick and F1. "I had a high school friend who was legally blind, so I studied it seriously. We spent time together. Then I started doing my method: walking around the house with all the lights off, trying to move from one place to another at night, figuring out how to protect myself and memorize furniture and space," Leguizamo recalled about his preparation for The Odyssey.

The method acting approach he employed in The Odyssey demonstrates Leguizamo's commitment to character immersion. He even learned from a friend who experienced total blindness to understand how to move and interact. This kind of work ethic signals that his role as the villain in Miami Vice '85 will be tackled with full dedication.
