Singer Chesney Hawkes, 54, has revealed that he rarely meets one of his fellow Celebrity Big Brother contestants, Chris Hughes, even though the two live in neighboring cities. He made the admission during An Audience With... Chesney Hawkes, hosted by Hayley Palmer at The Hippodrome Casino in London on Monday night (14/09/26).
Hawkes, known for the song The One and Only, is still in regular contact with several former housemates, such as Trisha Goddard and Angellica Bell. He also said he is very close to Danny Beard and Donna Preston. However, his relationships with Chris Hughes and JoJo Siwa are not as intense as the others. “I still contact them, but not as often as Danny and Donna. Funny enough, Chris lives in the next city over, so I should be able to see him more often,” he said.
Most notably, Hawkes is no longer in contact with Hollywood star Mickey Rourke, 74. Rourke was removed from the show by production due to “unacceptable behavior.” “I don't contact Mickey Rourke, unfortunately. There are several reasons!” Hawkes said without elaborating.
In a separate interview with The Sun in May 2025, Hawkes recounted his unique experience of sharing a room with Rourke. He called the star of The Wrestler a “lost soul” who was very open. “Mickey thought he would only stay for a day. By the fifth day, he said he was going to leave, and sure enough, he did. We didn't know he had gone until Big Brother called us to the sofa. He didn't even open his suitcase. His clothes and shoes were scattered on the floor. While getting dressed, he threw his things onto my bed and just left. I had to sweep them onto the floor, but he didn't care. He snored like a horse. He slept at the end of my bed, and the bed shook from his loud snoring. He really was a lost soul. We had a very deep conversation; he was very open,” Hawkes recalled.
Post-reality show dynamics like this are rarely exposed. Celebrity Big Brother, which airs on ITV, is known for creating intense closeness among its housemates. However, after the cameras stop rolling, not all relationships last. Hawkes said he never created a WhatsApp group with his former housemates. “We never made a group chat, but Danny Beard is a true friend of mine, and Donna Preston—I love Donna,” he said.
This phenomenon also occurs in Indonesia. Reality shows such as Indonesian Idol, MasterChef Indonesia, or Big Brother Indonesia often leave sweet and bitter memories for their contestants. Many maintain good relationships, but quite a few gradually drift apart due to their respective busy schedules. For Indonesia's entertainment industry, stories like this are a mirror showing that emotional bonds formed under competition pressure do not always last long. It is also a lesson for contestants not to rely on popularity alone for their careers, but to build genuine and sustainable networks.
Looking ahead, the public is still waiting to see whether Hawkes will return to the entertainment stage with a new project, or become an increasingly rare sight. Either way, his admission adds color to the rarely discussed post-Celebrity Big Brother narrative. Will fans see a reunion of the housemates? Or, on the contrary, will their relationships grow more distant over time?
