Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke revealed that he suffered a major blow to his confidence after completing the band's 2025 reunion tour. In an interview with Rolling Stone, Yorke admitted it took him months to recover mentally, even though he enjoyed every performance on stage.
The tour was Radiohead's first in seven years, taking them to major European cities including Madrid, Bologna, London, Berlin, and Copenhagen. Yorke called the experience "fun", but the aftermath was a stark contrast. "My response afterwards was a crash, a total crash, in terms of confidence," he told the magazine.
He only truly bounced back when he began working on a solo album two months after the tour ended. "It took months. It took me starting my own recording again two months later to be able to say: 'Oh, okay. I'm fine now,'" he said. Yorke added that he has a strange relationship with the music world and has grown used to that condition.
Beyond the tour, Yorke also admitted he was confused by the Fellowship of The Ivors Academy award he received last May. "I'm in a slightly better place now, but I'd be lying if I said something like getting an Ivor Novello fellowship didn't confuse me," he said. He admires many previous recipients, some of whom are his idols, yet he feels his relationship with that aspect of the work is very strange.
"I did it for them, because if they're emotional about it, okay, that's why I'm here. Because for me, I feel quite numb about it."

Yorke said his two children, Agnes and Noah, and his wife, Dajana, were very emotional watching him be honored at the Ivor Novello awards. But he himself admitted feeling "numb" when receiving the award. He stressed that he does this work for his family, not for personal recognition.
Yorke's admission highlights another side of the music industry, which often looks glamorous on the surface. Musicians' mental health has become an increasingly open topic, especially after the pandemic and the intense pressures of touring. For Radiohead, the 2025 reunion should have been a moment of celebration, but instead it exposed the vulnerability of an icon.
Looking ahead, will Yorke return to the stage with Radiohead or focus on his solo career? He has not ruled it out, but his experience shows that psychological support for musicians after a tour is not something that can be ignored. The global music industry may need to start considering mental health support as part of artist management, not just a bonus.
