The photography magazine Digital Camera has released its 313th issue with a download package that includes 38 minutes of video training for Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom, and Affinity. Not only that, users also get a Buyer's Guide PDF containing camera and lens reviews, 29 actions, presets, and free displacement maps for all three software programs. The package also comes with printable tip cards and project files for certain tutorials.
This launch marks a step by the print magazine to strengthen its digital learning ecosystem. Amid increasingly tight competition in online educational content, Digital Camera is trying to stay relevant by providing practical materials that can be applied immediately. For beginner and professional photographers alike, the availability of free presets and actions is an added value because it can cut down image processing time.
However, the download process is not always smooth. A number of users reported problems when downloading using Google Chrome. To work around this, it is recommended to try another browser such as Safari or Firefox. After the file is downloaded, users need to extract it with decompression software. If it is not yet available, 7-Zip can be a free alternative. The included ISO file is also designed to be mounted on a desktop like a physical CD or DVD, simply by double-clicking.
"Some users experienced problems when downloading with Google Chrome. If so, try an alternative browser such as Safari or Firefox," reads the instruction included in the download package.
For Indonesian photographers, this package offers a chance to improve skills at no extra cost. Moreover, access to English-language training materials can be a challenge in itself, but the visual content and project files make it easier to understand across languages. In the domestic market, the photography community continues to grow, driven by increasing use of social media and the need for visual content for business.
Going forward, this kind of distribution model could become a standard for print media that wants to survive in the digital era. The question is, will other magazines follow a similar path by offering interactive learning packages? If so, Indonesia's creator ecosystem will benefit even more from a variety of easily accessible learning resources.
