Guruh Irianto Soekarnoputra, the youngest son of Indonesia's first president Soekarno, died on Saturday (26/9) at Siloam Semanggi Hospital, Jakarta, at the age of 73. His passing left a deep mark on many, especially those who knew his dedication in the fields of arts and culture and politics.
Indonesia's 7th president, Joko Widodo (Jokowi), expressed his respect and gratitude for the late figure's contributions. In an Instagram post, Jokowi remembered Guruh as someone who had served the nation, both through art and politics. He also prayed that the deceased would find the best place with God and that the bereaved family would be given strength.
The Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy for 2020-2024, Sandiaga Uno, also offered his condolences when visiting the mourning house. He regarded Guruh as a national figure and cultural maestro who contributed greatly through the Swara Mahardhika arts group as well as his party role. "We pray that he is granted husnul khotimah and a place at the best side of Allah SWT," said Sandiaga.
Condolences also came from PDIP politician and Nahdlatul Ulama activist Mohamad Guntur Romli, who asked forgiveness for any mistakes the deceased may have made. Member of Commission XIII of the DPR from the PDIP faction, Rieke Diah Pitaloka, expressed her deep condolences via social media X. "I express my deepest condolences on the passing of the late Guruh Soekarnoputra," she wrote.
News of Guruh's death was first conveyed by PDIP Secretary-General Hasto Kristiyanto in a written statement. "Inna lilahi wa inna ilaihi raji'un. Allahummaghfirlahu warhamhu wa'afihi wa'fuanhu. The late Mr. MOHAMMAD GURUH IRIANTO SUKARNOPUTRA BIN SUKARNO has passed away into the mercy of Allah at the age of 73," said Hasto.

Born as Muhammad Guruh Irianto Soekarnoputra, he was educated at Perguruan Cikini, SMA Negeri 25 Jakarta, and studied Archaeology at the University of Amsterdam until 1974. He later earned a Bachelor's degree in Public Administration from STIAMI (2005-2008) and a Master's in Management in 2010. From a young age, his artistic talent stood out, especially in dance and music. He founded Swara Mahardhika and GSP Production, and was involved in the groups Guruh Gipsy and Gank Pegangsaan alongside Keenan Nasution, Abadi Soesman, and Chrisye.
His legacy includes legendary songs such as "Kala Sang Surya Tenggelam", "Melati Suci", "Zamrud Khatulistiwa", "Lenggang Puspita", "Mahadaya Cinta", and "Galih dan Ratna". These songs were not only popular in their time but also became an important part of Indonesia's musical heritage.
Guruh Soekarnoputra's passing marks the end of a chapter in Indonesia's cultural and political history. He is remembered as a link between Soekarno's legacy and the development of modern art.
