Microsoft officially launched its latest Surface lineup at the Qualcomm Snapdragon Summit, introducing a 12-inch Surface Pro and a 2026 version of the 13-inch Surface Laptop powered by the Snapdragon X2 Plus processor. Another surprise came from the revival of the Surface Mouse, which had been discontinued in 2023, now featuring haptic feedback technology. The move marks Microsoft's strategy to strengthen its premium hardware ecosystem amid increasingly fierce competition in ARM chips.
The launch drew attention because Microsoft not only refreshed its laptop and tablet lines but also brought back an accessory that had been on hiatus. The Surface Mouse first debuted in 2016 and went through several iterations before being discontinued two years ago. Its return in 2026, complete with haptic feedback, indicates that Microsoft sees renewed market demand for high-quality peripherals, especially in the professional and creator segments.
The 12-inch Surface Pro arrives as a fanless Windows device that retains a familiar design, but with a significant upgrade to its touchscreen, which is 25% brighter than its predecessor. Powered by the Snapdragon X2 Plus, the device offers snappier and more efficient performance. Microsoft also introduced Microsoft Ink Canvas, an AI-based software layer optimized for the Slim Pen. The feature will ship directly on the device and be available for compatible Surface and other Windows devices starting October 13.
Meanwhile, the 2026 13-inch Surface Laptop comes with an aluminum body, a full-size backlit keyboard, and a new black color option. Its 3:2 screen ratio, higher than average, makes it ideal for productivity. Like the Surface Pro 12, the display panel is also 25% brighter, ensuring competitiveness in the premium class. Notably, the price of this generation of the 13-inch Surface Laptop is actually lower than the 12th-generation model, at $1,199, making it an attractive choice for professionals who want a device powered by an ARM chip.
For the Indonesian market, this launch could influence the dynamics of premium devices in the country. Although official pricing for other regions has not been announced, the presence of the Snapdragon X2 Plus and AI features such as Ink Canvas could drive adoption of ARM-based devices among creative workers and executives. However, challenges remain: a higher price than the previous generation could be a stumbling block in a price-sensitive market like Indonesia. Local distributors are expected to wait for Microsoft's official announcement for the Southeast Asia region.

With the launch scheduled simultaneously on October 13, Microsoft appears to want to use the Snapdragon Summit moment to assert its position in the ARM-based PC market. The question is whether the aggressive pricing strategy on the 13-inch Surface Laptop will attract Indonesian consumers, or whether the more expensive 12-inch Surface Pro will instead become the new benchmark for premium 2-in-1 devices. Time will tell, but one thing is certain: competition in this segment is heating up.
