Epson has officially expanded its Home Cinema line with the launch of three new 4K HDR laser projectors—the LS5000, LS6000, and LS7500—featuring 3-Chip 3LCD technology and a laser light source. All three are positioned below the flagship LS11000, offering choices for consumers with varying budgets and room sizes. The launch marks an aggressive move by Epson in the increasingly competitive home theater market, especially amid the trend of ever more affordable large screens.
In terms of specifications, the three projectors can produce brightness between 2,500 and 3,500 lumens, with equal Color Brightness and White Brightness. Epson's proprietary 4K Display technology renders approximately 8.29 million pixels on screen, and supports 10-bit HDR content, HDR10, and HLG. An optional Automatic HDR Scene Correction feature enables automatic image adjustment according to the scene. Dynamic contrast ratios range from 800,000:1 to 1,200,000:1, delivering deep black levels.
Screen sizes can reach 300 inches, and the projectors are compatible with a range of aspect ratios, from 16:9 HDTV to 21:9 cinematic. The LS5000 and LS6000 use Epson Cinema lenses, while the LS7500 is equipped with a short-throw lens that allows placement closer to the wall—ideal for rooms with limited depth. All three offer manual lens shift of up to ±21 percent horizontal and 59 percent vertical.
For gamers, Epson has embedded two HDMI ports that support 4K HDR up to 120Hz, Auto Low Latency Mode, and input lag below 20ms. One HDMI port is equipped with eARC for audio passthrough. Integrated Bluetooth 6.0 enables two-channel audio streaming from HDMI sources. The design is compact with quiet front airflow.
"As TVs get bigger, they can become a design challenge, leaving a large black rectangle dominating the room when not in use," said Fernando Tamashiro, product manager at Epson America, adding that projection "almost disappears when the entertainment ends."
The launch also highlights a shift in Epson's strategy in facing the dominance of large-screen TVs. With the LS5000 priced on par with an 85-inch 4K TV, the projector offers an alternative for consumers who want a larger screen without compromising room aesthetics. However, the main challenge for projectors remains the need for a dark room and proper placement.
In Indonesia, the home theater projector market is still dominated by brands such as BenQ, Optoma, and ViewSonic, with Epson holding a strong share in the business and education segments. The arrival of this trio could intensify competition in the premium segment, especially for consumers seeking a home cinema experience. Nevertheless, pricing in US dollars—and the potential addition of import duties and VAT—makes them less affordable for most Indonesian retail consumers. A bigger opportunity comes instead from the hospitality sector, such as hotels and multipurpose rooms, which are beginning to switch to laser projectors for long-term efficiency.
With this launch, Epson appears to want to strengthen its position in the 4K projector market, which is predicted to grow along with increasing consumption of high-quality streaming content. The question is, will laser projectors be able to replace large TVs in Indonesian living rooms, or will they remain a niche device for audio-visual enthusiasts?
