The 2026/2027 BRI Super League competition has entered its third week, bringing interesting dynamics: two teams remain perfect, while seven other contestants have yet to secure a single victory. Madura United and Persija Jakarta are in the spotlight after sweeping their first three matches, although neither has been able to dislodge Dewa United from the top of the standings, as the league leader has played four games and collected 10 points.
Madura United and Persija's success stems from impressive home performances. Madura United silenced PSIM Yogyakarta with a 2-1 victory after initially falling behind to Nermin Haljieta's goal in the 15th minute. Goals from Mendonca (71') and Gali Freitas (73') secured a dramatic comeback. Meanwhile, Persija narrowly defeated their visitors, and Borneo FC also claimed full points in front of their home crowd. The only home team to fall was Persijap Jepara, who had to concede to Persib Bandung despite taking an early lead through Pirulo's penalty (13'). Thom Haye (21') and Uilliam Barros (55') turned the tide for a 2-1 Persib win.
On the other hand, the third week also highlighted the difficulty for several teams to bounce back. PSM and Garudayaksa FC have each only collected two draws and one loss, while PSIM and Java United are stuck with one draw and two defeats. Most concerning are PSS, Persijap, and Isenmulang FC, who have yet to earn a single point. Consequently, Persijap, Java United, and Isenmulang FC now occupy the relegation zone.
"Managing permits so that the Persija vs. Persib duel could finally be held at GBK with spectators was not an easy matter," said I.League President Director, Ferry Paulus, describing the operational challenges of this season's competition.
Interestingly, the top of the provisional top scorer list is dominated by newcomers. Denilson Junior, a 31-year-old foreign striker for Dewa United, scored two goals against Borneo FC and now has four goals. He matches the tally of Madura United forward Dimitar Mitkov, who also has four goals. Both have left behind competitors who, on average, have only scored two goals. The race for the top scorer title is predicted to intensify as the weeks progress.
The newly promoted team Isenmulang FC has suffered the most unfortunate fate. The club from Central Kalimantan has been battered by its opponents. After being thrashed 0-4 by Arema FC and 1-4 by Bali United, they again lost 0-2 to Bhayangkara FC. Besides being rooted at the bottom of the standings, Isenmulang FC also has the highest number of goals conceded and has been penalized two points. Without significant improvement, the threat of early relegation will become increasingly real.
For Indonesian football fans, this third week provides a clear picture of the temporary power dynamics: established teams still dominate, while promoted teams and those at the bottom must quickly make improvements. Will Madura United and Persija be able to maintain their perfect records, or will Dewa United continue to pull away at the top? What is clear is that the competition has just begun, and the dynamics are still very open.
