Fans of the dystopian Hunger Games franchise have reason to celebrate: all five feature films in the series will be available to watch for free on the streaming platform Tubi starting 1 November 2026. The opportunity comes just weeks before the sixth film, The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, is scheduled to hit theaters on 20 November 2026.
Tubi's decision to bring back all the Hunger Games films free of charge is not without reason. The strategy clearly capitalizes on the momentum of the new release to draw in viewers who may not yet be familiar with the story, while also indulging loyal fans who want to relive the nostalgia. For Tubi, known as a free, ad-supported streaming service, the move could also boost viewership and ad revenue heading into the end of the year.
The Hunger Games franchise itself is rooted in the novels by Suzanne Collins, which have sold more than 100 million copies worldwide. The books' success was later adapted for the big screen, beginning in 2012 with The Hunger Games, starring Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen. The first film grossed more than USD 694 million globally and spawned four sequels: Catching Fire (2013), Mockingjay — Part 1 (2014), Mockingjay — Part 2 (2015), and the prequel The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes (2023).
For viewers diving into the world of Panem for the first time, the recommended viewing order follows the release chronology: start with The Hunger Games, Catching Fire, Mockingjay — Part 1, Mockingjay — Part 2, then The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. However, if you want to follow the story's timeline, the prequel, set 64 years before the events of the first film, can be watched first.
The first film introduces Katniss Everdeen, a teenager from District 12 who volunteers in place of her younger sister in the Hunger Games, a televised fight to the death. Alongside Peeta Mellark (Josh Hutcherson), she survives and is ultimately crowned a winner. That victory sparks a growing wave of rebellion in Catching Fire, when President Snow forces previous victors back into the arena. Katniss and Peeta's defiance becomes the turning point toward full-scale revolution in the two parts of Mockingjay.
Meanwhile, The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes spotlights a young Coriolanus Snow (Tom Blyth), who later becomes President Snow. The film tells the story of his role as mentor to Lucy Gray Baird (Rachel Ziegler) in the 10th Hunger Games. Although released later, the prequel provides important context about the origins of the tyranny in Panem.
As for Sunrise on the Reaping, it will tell the story of a young Haymitch Abernathy (played by Joseph Zada) in the 50th Hunger Games. The film is billed as the most brutal installment in the franchise's history. With a deadline of about three weeks, a marathon of the five previous films could be solid preparation for the new release.
Unfortunately, there is no official information yet on how long the five films will remain available on Tubi. Viewers who are interested are advised to take advantage of the opportunity soon. The question is, will this free-streaming strategy become a new trend for other major film franchises in promoting sequels amid increasingly fierce competition among digital platforms?
