- Pelatih Widodo Cahyono Putro menilai timnya mendominasi dan menciptakan banyak peluang, tetapi penyelesaian akhir menjadi biang kerok kegagalan meraih poin penuh.

PSIS Semarang still has not found a way out of its slump. Hosting Persikad Depok on matchday eight of the 2026/2027 Pegadaian Championship at Stadion Jatidiri, Semarang, on Sunday (1/11/2026) night, Mahesa Jenar could only draw 0-0, extending their winless run to four consecutive matches.
The result was clearly disappointing, especially because PSIS played in front of their own supporters. In their last four matches, the team coached by Widodo Cahyono Putro has collected only two draws and two defeats. The chance to bounce back was wide open, but blunt finishing made golden opportunities vanish.
Widodo admitted that he was the one most disappointed by the result. He had hoped his players could win the match, but reality said otherwise. Nevertheless, he judged that in terms of play PSIS were dominant and managed to carry out the training scheme well.
"We have tried our best and the players have carried out the training scheme to create many chances, but the finishing is still lacking so no goals were scored," said Widodo.
According to the 55-year-old coach, the main problem is not tactics or the organization of play, but effectiveness in front of goal. He even said his own players had been puzzled by the situation. Daily training has been done according to the scheme, but goals simply will not come.
Despite the poor result, Widodo kept the players' morale up. He reminded them that the competition is still long and there are still many matches to improve their position in the standings. Excessive frustration, he fears, could damage their competitive mentality.
"I hope the players do not get frustrated and keep fighting because there are still upcoming matches. In football, today we can fail, but tomorrow we can succeed. We must keep rising," he said.
Echoing the coach, PSIS player Fitra Ridwan apologized to the Mahesa Jenar supporters. He acknowledged that his teammates had tried their best and created many chances, but there was no luck yet in scoring.
"On behalf of the players, I would like to apologize for not winning today. But we as players have also tried as hard as possible by creating many chances, maybe we just have not had the luck to score," said Fitra.
For PSIS, this finishing problem is not merely a statistical note. In modern football, dominance without goals often backfires because opponents can turn one chance into a win. If not addressed soon, this negative trend could lower the players' confidence and affect the team's position in the standings.
Going forward, PSIS are required to be sharper in front of goal. Widodo needs to find a new formula in finishing training, perhaps by adding more shooting practice or using analytical data to evaluate player movement in the penalty box. The question is, can Mahesa Jenar end their goal drought and return to winning ways in the next match?
