Borneo FC enter the fourth week of the 2026/2027 BRI Super League with a heavy physical burden. A round trip to Thailand for the ASEAN Championship Cup consumed nearly two full days, forcing Mauro Jeronimo's side to play at Stadion Jatidiri, Semarang, on Sunday (11/10/2026), in a state of accumulated fatigue.
Jeronimo revealed that Juan Villa and his teammates spent 32 hours reaching Buriram, then about 15 hours returning to Indonesia. A total of 47 hours in transit, with only a three-day gap before facing Java United. The situation forced the coaching staff to drastically change their preparation approach.
Because of the narrow recovery window, tactical training sessions were barely held. Jeronimo admitted he relied more on video analysis to dissect Java United's strengths and weaknesses. "We know the team's condition. We will do our best in every match. Because time is short, we used video more than training," he said.
"Our spirit does not waver. Football is about the game. The more matches you play, everyone gets better. Every player must look after his own fitness because we came from a long trip." โ Mauro Jeronimo
Even so, the youngest coach in the competition stressed that squad depth has been their savior. He called player rotation the key to staying competitive in two competitions at once. "We have players to rotate if needed. This makes us confident in every match," he added.
Jeronimo also acknowledged that his team is still a work in progress. "It is still early in the season. The team has not reached the level we expect. We have to go step by step, match by match, taking into account the league and international competition," he explained.
Psychologically, this match carries its own dimension. Fabio Lefundes, who last season led Borneo FC to a runner-up finish, now stands on the opposing side as Java United's coach. This reunion adds an emotional layer to the meeting of two teams both seeking consistency early in the season.
For Borneo FC, this packed schedule is a test of the squad's resilience. Proper rotation management will determine whether they can maintain momentum in the BRI Super League without sacrificing performance in the ASEAN Championship Cup. If the team's depth proves adequate, it is not impossible for Borneo FC to emerge from this difficult period still in a competitive position.
The question is, how far can a video-based strategy and player rotation cover the fitness deficit? The answer will be seen on the pitch, but one thing is certain: Borneo FC do not want to drop points purely because of non-technical factors.
