Guruh Soekarnoputra, the youngest son of Indonesia's first president, passed away on Saturday, 26 September 2026, at 04.16 WIB at MRCCC Siloam Hospital, Semanggi, Jakarta. The man whose full name was Mohammad Guruh Irianto Sukarnoputra died at the age of 73 after undergoing intensive care.
Since morning, the residence at Jalan Sriwijaya Raya Number 26, Jakarta, became the center of attention. A number of national figures came one after another to offer their condolences. Former Vice President Jusuf Kalla arrived at around 11.11 WIB with his wife. His arrival was welcomed by family members and several PDI Perjuangan politicians, including the party's Secretary-General Hasto Kristiyanto.
Not long after, former sixth President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) arrived at 11.36 WIB. SBY went straight into the funeral home and was received by a number of party figures already at the location. The presence of the two former top leaders marked how extensive the political network of the Soekarno family is, even beyond the PDI Perjuangan circle.
Besides the two former presidents and vice president, several ministers of the Merah Putih Cabinet were also present. Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto and Minister of Religious Affairs Nasaruddin Umar were seen. Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung along with Deputy Governor Rano Karno were also visible at the location. Their presence showed that Guruh was respected across generations and across political affiliations.
"The deceased will be buried next to the grave of his mother, Fatmawati Soekarno, at TPU Karet Bivak, Jakarta, after zuhur prayers," said PDI Perjuangan Secretary-General Hasto Kristiyanto.
Guruh was the younger brother of PDI Perjuangan Chairwoman Megawati Soekarnoputri. His condition had been reported as critical and drew public attention in recent days. The news of his passing was finally conveyed by the family and the party on Saturday morning, triggering a wave of condolences from various circles.
