Title Fights in San Juan: Lebron vs Hernandez and Tapia vs Basualdo Vie for WBO Belts

Two fights for World Boxing Organization (WBO) title belts will headline the boxing card at the Coliseíto Pedrín Zorrilla in San Juan, Puerto Rico, on Saturday night local time. Henry “Moncho” Lebron, an unbeaten challenger from Puerto Rico in the super featherweight division, will face WBO Global titleholder Derlyn Hernandez in the co-main event broadcast live by Wynn Records Network.

In the other featured bout, hometown female fighter Kiria Tapia will take on Juliana Basualdo in a 10-round clash for the WBO NABO super featherweight belt. A win over Basualdo would move Tapia one step closer to a world title opportunity and cement her position as one of Puerto Rico's most promising prospects.

Both fighters completed their press conference on Thursday at the Universidad de San Juan. Lebron, who has never lost, said he is ready to step into the ring and take the title belt. “This is my moment. I have prepared myself to show my best level and prove what I can do,” he said. Hernandez, meanwhile, arriving as the defending champion, made clear she will not let Lebron shine. “This will be a war between two true fighters. I am ready to defend what is mine,” she said.

In the women's super featherweight division, Tapia said she is very grateful for the support she has received, especially from the San Juan city government. “I am very thankful to Universal Promotions for believing in me and supporting my journey. I am also honored to be part of the Salita Promotions and Wynn Records platform,” she said. Tapia promised to deliver her best version in front of the hometown crowd. Basualdo, who comes from outside Puerto Rico, is undaunted. “I know Kiria Tapia's quality and the challenge ahead. I came here to take home the title. I just hope the fight is fair,” she said.

Beyond the two main bouts, the undercard also features a number of talented fighters. Giovanni Scuderi, an unbeaten heavyweight prospect, will face Devonte Williams in an eight-round bout. Ángel “El Mensajero” Carranza, a prominent Puerto Rican lightweight, brings a five-fight KO winning streak and will duel Kevin Piedrahita. Meanwhile, the also-unbeaten William Colon will open the card against Luis Porozo in a six-round bout.

Promoter Dmitriy Salita, President of Salita Promotions, stressed his mission to restore the glory of Puerto Rican boxing. “We are committed to reigniting the spirit of Puerto Rican boxing, one of the best places that produces champions. Salita also appreciated the WBO's recognition of the two fights on this card. “Title belts matter, and the WBO has supported Puerto Rican boxing for generations,” he added.
