The Pokémon Company (TPC) is preparing a surprise for trading card game (TCG) collectors by introducing a Valentine-themed set for the first time. According to a report by Poké Beach, a media outlet with a strong track record in TCG coverage, the set is scheduled to launch on January 27, 2027. The news emerged as the last major set of 2026, Delta Reign, has yet to be released, and TPC is already mapping out its strategy for the following year.
Unlike regular sets such as Pitch Black or Chaos Rising, this Valentine set is expected to arrive as a limited edition similar to the Trick or Trade celebration for Halloween. The previous Halloween set contained 30 cards dominated by ghost and dark-type Pokémon, with no exclusive cards, but each card was stamped with an orange Pikachu pumpkin. For Valentine, there will likely be a special Pikachu stamp, possibly in pink. This move marks a shift in TPC's strategy as it begins to seriously tap seasonal moments as a draw of their own.
Although there has been no official announcement from TPC, speculation points to a card composition dominated by pink and red colors and psychic-type Pokémon—given that the fairy type does not exist in the TCG. The set's packaging will likely be a small bundle designed to be shared alongside Valentine's cards. Like most recent TPC releases, the set is predicted to be hard to find on the market, sparking a hunt among collectors.
For loyal fans, the arrival of a seasonal set like this is a breath of fresh air. TPC has not released Trick or Trade for two years, and although its contents are mostly reprints without special art cards, sealed Booster Bundle prices for the Halloween set remain high on the secondary market. The arrival of a Valentine set targeting the mainstream market is expected to divert some demand from the main sets that have long been the primary target.
"Seasonal sets like this can serve as a safety valve for a secondary market that has been overheating," said a TCG observer who declined to be named.
From an industry perspective, TPC's move into the Valentine moment is not just about product expansion, but also an effort to broaden its demographic. Love-themed cards have the potential to attract impulse buyers who rarely touch TCG, while also creating a new tradition among fans. However, the biggest challenge remains distribution: if the pattern of scarcity continues, this set could backfire by triggering frustration rather than excitement.
In Indonesia, the Pokémon TCG market has shown positive momentum in recent years, with an active community and regularly held local tournaments. The arrival of the Valentine set could expand the fan base, especially among younger people drawn to the collection and aesthetic aspects. However, as in the global market, stock availability is key. Local importers and distributors need to anticipate a surge in demand so that a shortage does not harm consumers.
If this prediction comes true, 2027 will be a busy year for TPC with a packed release schedule. The question is, will the Valentine set become an annual tradition or just a fleeting experiment? What is clear is that collectors are already starting to wonder whether the pink Pikachu stamp will be the next sought-after item.
