Meta has officially opened early access registration for the latest features of its Muse AI app, following the announcement at the Connect 2026 developer conference. The company announced on Friday that users can now ask Muse to add them to an early trial waitlist through a simple command in the app.
Unlike closed beta tests that usually target random groups, Meta is specifically courting AI enthusiasts who are used to using various apps and intelligent agents. This strategy is seen as a way to speed up product refinement while maintaining competitiveness in an increasingly tight AI market, especially against OpenAI and Google.
The features to be tested include a digital avatar that can be engaged in video calls, an expansion of shopping partnerships, and the integration of the Muse app on Mac that allows users to complete computer tasks via voice commands. Meta also plans to bring Muse to its line of AI glasses, so interaction is enough with a wake word and spoken instructions.
Meta's move underscores a shift in the company's strategy for testing AI products. Instead of relying on internal testing or limited groups, Meta is tapping a tech-savvy early user community to get fast feedback. This approach also serves as an indirect marketing tool, since early users tend to spread their experiences on social media.
"We want to make sure that the features we develop truly match users' everyday needs," a Meta spokesperson said in an official statement, without mentioning a specific deadline for the full launch.
For Indonesia, this move opens up opportunities as well as challenges. The consumer AI market in the country is still dominated by global apps such as ChatGPT and Gemini, but the presence of Muse with Meta's ecosystem integration—WhatsApp, Instagram, and Facebook—could accelerate AI adoption among ordinary users. However, the readiness of digital infrastructure and data protection regulations will be determining factors in whether these advanced features can be widely accessed.
Technology observers assess that Meta is trying to create a closed ecosystem that combines hardware, software, and services. If successful, Muse will not only be a digital assistant, but also a gateway for Meta to dominate users' daily interactions. Competition with Apple and Google in the realm of smart glasses and voice assistants will also heat up.
Going forward, the question is how quickly Meta can bring these features to the global market, including Indonesia, and whether users are ready to accept an AI presence that is increasingly integrated into daily life. Without a clear schedule and a strong privacy commitment, initial enthusiasm could turn into doubt.
