Streaming service AMC+ has officially offered an annual plan for $39.99, a steep drop from the normal price of $109.99 per year. The promo runs until October 12 and is open to new subscribers, both through the AMC+ site and Amazon Prime Video. The 64% discount makes it the lowest price since AMC+ launched in 2020, just ahead of the premiere of the mystery series 'Yaga' on October 23.
AMC+'s aggressive move is not without reason. Throughout the year, the platform posted strong performance thanks to a string of popular titles such as 'The Vampire Lestat', 'The Audacity', as well as the 'The Walking Dead' and 'Doctor Who' franchises. The arrival of 'Yaga', starring Hudson Williams and Carrie-Anne Moss, is an added draw to attract new subscribers. At an equivalent of $3.33 per month, AMC+ is trying to strengthen its position amid increasingly crowded streaming service competition.
The AMC+ premium plan offers an ad-free viewing experience, the ability to download content for offline viewing, and simultaneous streaming on five devices. In addition to the AMC Networks library, subscribers also get access to BBC America, IFC, Sundance Now, and the horror service Shudder. All of that is included in a single annual payment, making it an attractive proposition for fans of quality content.
Although this promo is not directly tied to Prime Big Deal Days, which ended Wednesday, its launch coincided with that online shopping momentum. Amazon Prime Video features the offer in its Prime Channels hub, so only Prime members can see the discounted price. For those not yet subscribed, Amazon provides a 30-day free trial to access the promo.
"This is the lowest price we've ever seen for AMC+ since its launch," Variety wrote in its report.
For the Indonesian market, the AMC+ promo offers a legal entertainment alternative at an affordable cost. Although its content may be less familiar to some, the presence of series like 'Yaga' and the 'The Walking Dead' franchise could be a draw. However, it should be noted that this offer is only valid in certain regions and requires an Amazon Prime subscription, whose availability in Indonesia is limited. Even so, this phenomenon of aggressive discounting shows the increasingly competitive global streaming industry, which in turn could push local providers to improve their services.
Going forward, AMC+'s move could signal to other platforms to offer similar pricing strategies. Will this promo be followed by other streaming services ahead of the end of the year? What is clear is that consumers benefit from more choices and competitive prices.
