Google Releases Android 17 QPR2 Beta 6, Fixes Mysterious Reboots on Pixel 9 Pro Fold

Google has officially begun rolling out Android 17 QPR2 Beta 6 to Pixel testers, bringing crucial fixes for a series of crashes and unexpected reboots that have been disrupting a number of device models. The move signals that the tech giant is entering the final phase of development for its latest operating system.

In an announcement on the Android Beta subreddit, Google said all enrolled devices now use the same build number, vCP41.260831.007. Compatible devices range from the Pixel 6a to the Pixel 10 series, including the 10a variant. Several fixes arrive this week, with the main highlight being the reboot issue affecting the Pixel 9 Pro Fold.

The problem had previously been a prominent complaint among QPR2 Beta testers. Several threads on the Issue Tracker reported devices rebooting suddenly when third-party apps tried to initialize the camera viewfinder. Google said the fix is expected to ease the disruption users have experienced.

Besides the reboot issue, Beta 6 also patches a severe system kernel crash. The complaint arose when third-party apps requested camera and microphone access simultaneously during the biometric verification stage. Google noted that the disruption could cause devices to freeze or hang.

Several other fixes are included as well, such as a visual regression that made letterboxed content bleed into the status bar during activity transitions, a blank screen on the screensaver while charging, the inability to close a locked app with a swipe gesture in Recent Apps, and crashes or reboots while scrolling. These fixes come as welcome relief for users who have reported an unstable experience.

"The product team is temporarily reverting the lock screen blur effect from this latest beta release to fix a number of bugs," said Mishaal Rahman, an Android observer, responding to user reports on Reddit.

Interestingly, a number of users reported that the blurred notifications on the lock screen disappeared after the update. Mishaal Rahman clarified that the removal is temporary. Meanwhile, Pixel 10 Pro XL, Pixel 7, and Pixel 9 users reported receiving Kernel 6.12, with many noticing improved device fluidity.

QPR2 Beta 5 itself was released only about ten days ago, and Google appears to be rushing to complete major fixes as quickly as possible. Last week, several Bluetooth patches were also included after Android 17 QPR2 reached "Platform Stability." Now, development is entering the final stage toward full release.

For users in Indonesia, especially Pixel owners enrolled in the beta program, this update offers better stability. However, the risk of new bugs remains. Most consumers waiting for the stable version are advised to be patient, as the full rollout is expected within the next few weeks. As a result, the local app ecosystem will also need to adapt to changes in system behavior, particularly regarding camera and microphone access permissions.

Looking ahead, the question is how quickly Google releases the final version of Android 17 and whether these fixes will hold until the official launch. If this trend continues, the Pixel could become a benchmark for Android stability, but challenges remain in the diversity of devices and third-party apps in the global market, including Indonesia.
