Kim Kardashian Has Esophagitis, and the Shadow of Her Father's Cancer Returns to Haunt

- Kim Kardashian mengungkap diagnosis esofagitis, peradangan kerongkongan, dalam trailer musim kedelapan The Kardashians.

Kim Kardashian has revealed that she is battling esophagitis, an inflammation of the esophagus, in a clip from the eighth season of the reality show The Kardashians. The admission has resurfaced old trauma: her father, Robert Kardashian, died of esophageal cancer in 2003 at the age of 59.
In a recently released trailer, Kardashian is seen crying and lying in a hospital bed in a patient gown. A relative is heard asking, "Wasn't your father... wasn't that what killed him?" The question immediately touched the most sensitive point in the Kardashian-Jenner family. Kris Jenner, Kim's mother, could not hold back tears and admitted she could not imagine the worst.
Esophagitis is indeed not cancer. This inflammation is generally triggered by stomach acid rising into the esophagus, a condition known as gastroesophageal reflux. According to the Division of Gastroenterology at the University of Washington, about one in ten people with chronic reflux are at risk of developing Barrett's esophagus, a change in the lining of the esophagus that increases susceptibility to cancer. However, not all esophagitis leads to that complication.
For Kim, her family health history is an alarm that cannot be ignored. Previously, in the seventh season, she also revealed that she had been diagnosed with a small brain aneurysm after undergoing an MRI. At the time, she told her family that doctors suspected the condition was triggered by stress. An aneurysm is a bulge in a blood vessel in the brain that is generally harmless if small and asymptomatic.
Stress has indeed been a common thread in Kim's health journey in recent years. She once admitted that her psoriasis flared up during her divorce from Kanye West. "I hadn't had psoriasis since the divorce, but now it's back. I feel more stressed, maybe because I have to be very protective of what I protect," she said in a previous episode. Kim and Kanye officially divorced in 2021 and have four children: North, Saint, Chicago, and Psalm.
Kim Kardashian's health story is not just celebrity drama. In Indonesia, awareness of acid reflux disease and its complications remains low. Data from the Ministry of Health show that digestive disorders, including GERD, are among the common complaints in primary care. However, access to endoscopy and further examinations is still limited in the regions. Public figures like Kim can help encourage open discussion about the importance of early detection, especially for those with a family history of esophageal cancer.
"I think this is a reminder that mental and physical health are interconnected. Chronic stress can worsen existing conditions," said an internal medicine specialist in Jakarta, who did not wish to be named.
The eighth season of The Kardashians will premiere on Hulu on October 8. Will Kim's admission trigger a new wave of awareness about esophageal health, or will it merely sink into the noise of the entertainment industry? Clearly, for the Kardashian family, the shadow of esophageal cancer remains a wound that has not fully healed.
